Through portraits and landscapes, “From Your Thirst to Mine” reveals a personal and political struggle — a gaze shaped by distance, desire, and the complexity of identity. From Your Thirst to Mine is an ongoing project by Anne Simin Shitrit, born from a personal journey of self-discovery and an attempt to reconstruct the fragmented family and geographical narratives from which she originates. Shitrit, the daughter of a Moroccan father and an Iranian mother, was born and raised in Jerusalem within an ultra-Orthodox, anti-Zionist community, which she left at the age of fourteen. The camera, once belonging to her mother, became a tool for reconnection and reexamination of identity, memory, and belonging. Through the lens, she explores the deserts of Morocco and Palestine-Israel, where traces of migration, conflict, and wounded landscapes converge. Within these masculine and often violent environments, she reflects on the absence of women and transforms the act of looking — once passive — into an act of resistance and creation. The project weaves together images, texts, and languages — Hebrew, Arabic, Farsi, and Darija — into a poetic narrative in which reality and imagination intertwine, forming a renewed space of both personal and political belonging.
